If you've never seen a llama up close and personal, then you've not been to Greenmeadow Community Farm in Cwmbran.

There, at this 150 acre community farm you'll find a whole herd of them as well as local livestock where both children and adults can learn about the farm and its wide variety of animals.

Dating from the 17th century, Greenmeadow also has a nature trail, a wild fowl area and playgrounds. It's also a working farm with friendly farmers happy to answer questions from enquiring youngsters - and adults too!

There's a large animal barn which houses lots of friendly cows, goats, pigs, sheep and llamas and you can experience dairy cow and goat milking, see the rare breeds and commercial stock and the working horses.

Get your walking boots on and follow the woodland guide, study the hedgerow, see the pond dipping and enjoy the surrounding countryside and local nature.

And you won't go hungry either. there is a restaurant/cafeteria and take-out and lots of picnic areas so that you can enjoy the fresh air and the lovely surroundings.

On September 15th from 2pm onwards, Greenmeadow Community Farm will host its annual agricultural and craft show. There'll be more than 100 competition classes in the show covering everything from flowers and vegetables to cookery and crafts. There are also some very popular classes for children. If you've never been to the farm, it's certainly a good day to start because there's free admission for everyone!

It truly is a delight to see children enjoying the company of all the animals, who love the attention and fuss being made of them. It's also a great place for children to learn about caring for animals, respecting wildlife and the countryside in general, whilst enjoying a great day out that they'll remember and probably want to repeat on the next available weekend!
