SCORES of people gathered to watch Newport's civic parade march through the city yesterday morning.
With HMS Severn visiting the area and 104 Regiment parading with two saluting guns, the annual event proved to be a crowd pleaser.
The march left Mansion House before travelling through Stow Hill and finishing at St Woolos Cathedral, where a civic service was held to celebrate new city mayor Paul Cockeram.
The event, which is normally held close to the mayor-making ceremony, was put back this year due to council elections in the summer.
