BRAVE Lorain Hodson is hoping one final operation could eventually rid her of the cancer which has devastated her life.
Mrs Hodson, 38, of Bluebell Drive in Chepstow, is set to travel to London where a specialist in clear cell sarcoma - Lorain's cancer - has agreed in principle to perform a dangerous operation which could save her life.
Mrs Hodson, mother of teenagers Chris and Amy, has long accepted that the tumour - which began in her right heel, then spread to her heart will probably kill her.
But there was cause to celebrate recently as a trial run of an experimental chemotherapy treatment reduced the size of her tumour for the first time.
But despite that success last May, Mrs Hodson's doctors recently found a new tumour in her groin and told her there was no further treatment or operation they could provide.
Lorain's husband and full-time carer Roger said: "The surgeon at Cardiff University Hospital who operated on Lorain told us there was nothing more he could do which came as a smack in the face.
"After the thrill of hearing the tumour in her heart was reducing in size, this was a major knock-back.
"We refuse to give up hope though so we turned to Dr Merrion Thomas of the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
"Lorain is due there on Monday for four days of tests to check her heart can stand another operation.
"If they are successful she'll be in hospital down there for a month and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life but we hope to beat the cancer for good this time.
