Former Welsh professional champion Liam Bond, 34, won the Newport pro-am with a flawless seven-under-par round of 65 helped by an incredible finish.
He was only one-under-par for the front nine but, spurred by a birdie at the par-five 12th, he sprinted home in five-under-par for the last four holes with three birdies and an eagle on the par-five last to be home in 30.
It was the second success of the season for the touring professional from Marriott St Pierre who shared top place in the Wood BMW pro-am at Dudsbury, Dorset.
A Welsh international, he has spent much of his time recently on the Challenge tour and Europro tour with minimum success. He is now concentrating on the West Region and the previous week tied for fourth in the Phil Price Challenge at Pontypridd.
He is striving to win a place in this year's Welsh side to play in the European team championships at Atalaya Park, Spain, in December.
He finished a shot clear of James Lee, who has recently moved to Caerphilly from Hensol. Richard Dinsdale, Newport's former touring player who is now teaching at nearby Parc, and his family team finished third in the team section.
Richard played with brother Chris, the club's Gwent county scratch player, Chris' wife Heather and father John, the former Newport secretary now managing Royal Porthcawl.
