A POPULAR fundraising event is aiming to make a splash in its 40th anniversary year.
Organisers of Monmouth's annual raft race say entry to the event is 40 per cent up on last year when more than £9,500 was raised for the NSPCC.
With more than 75 rafts taking part the event stands to make well in excess of £20,000 for the charity following the offer from Wooden Spoon (Wales) which plans to match fund all sponsor money raised.
The event is being held tomorrow from the banks of Monmouth Rowing Club.
Rafts will have to complete a six-and-a-half mile course to the finish at Whitebrook.
To add to the occasion a new tented village facility complete with live entertainment and refreshments will be provided at the finish.
There is still time for people to enter.
Anyone wanting to take part should contact Tony Firth on 01594 528148 for details.
In some cases entries may also be accepted on the day of the race.
