A NEWPORT family told of their devastation at the tragic loss of a teenage daughter who "could light up a room".
In a statement, Laurie Mae Roberts' parents, Jane and John, said they would miss their eldest child "beyond belief".
The Rogerstone teenager died after a collision with a motorbike in Bassaleg on Monday afternoon - just a day after she celebrated her 14th birthday. The cause of the accident is still unclear.
Her parents, of Thornbury Park, High Cross, said: "Laurie was just about to enter year 10 of Bassaleg school. She was an outgoing, friendly and popular girl with many friends.
"Her presence could light up a room. We will miss her beyond belief. Her sister Georgia, nine, and brother Harry, 5, are devastated."
A keen performer, Laurie was a member of her school choir and an active member of the Dolman Theatre's youth group.
Her parents added: "She was a good kid who wanted to be a paramedic or police officer when she grew up."
Today Laurie's classmates were returning to Bassaleg Comprehensive to face the start of a new term without their friend.
Bassaleg school head teacher, Dr Ian Garrero, told the Argus pupils would be offered counselling to help with their grief.
He described Laurie as a "considerate, caring and bright girl".
And at the scene of the accident, just metres from the entrance to Bassaleg school, many youngsters have left floral tributes in memory of the popular teenager.
Written by young hands, one tribute read "Laurie, I will always remember the good times we had together. Always thinking about you and I'll miss you loads".
Another pal wrote, "Laurie, It's not going to be the same in science without you, you were kind and funny and I'll never forget you."
The motorcyclist remains in a comfortable condition at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 01633 838111.
