WORKERS at Newport Transport are pulling together to raise money for a popular driver whose son needs a bone marrow transplant.
Jeff Steer, 47, from Alway, appealed to people yesterday through the Argus to donate blood to help save nine-year old Thomas who is fighting leukaemia.
Tony Ball, 44, has worked with Mr Steer for four years and fellow workers say that Mr Steer is a well-thought of colleague.
He said: "Jeff is a character. He is well thought of here and we all know the family, that is why it has hit Newport Transport hard.
"We want to hold lots of events to raise cash to send Tommy on a once-in-a-life time holiday, hopefully to Disney World."
The team at Newport Transport are still in talks about how to raise the money but ideas are flying around.
"LATCH have been brilliant supporting the family and if there is money left over from the holiday we will donate it to them," Mr Ball added. Thomas has been treated for the life-threatening condition since 2001 and it was thought he had beaten the disease after a course of treatment, however, he is back in Llandough Hospital after the leukaemia returned.
Mr Ball said anyone who would like to help Thomas' appeal and give a donation can call him or Roger Boswell on 01633 264867.
