A GWENT police special constable shaved his head to raise money for starving children in Uganda after seeing television images of dying orphans.
Shaun Moore, from Blackwood, saw a film made by Open Door, a charity providing homes for abandoned babies.
Mr Moore, a special based at Ystrad Mynach police station, said: "It broke my heart seeing these tiny children living on the street, scavenging in dustbins and certain to die. I knew I had to do something, anything, to raise a bit of cash to help."
Mr Moore raised over £250 in sponsorship money by shaving his head and said: "I hadn't had a haircut for a while and I've never shaved my head before. It only took two days to raise the money because people are always willing to help good causes."
Tom Lewis, regional fundraising co-ordinator for Open Door and friend of Mr Moore, said: "When you consider I can feed a child for a month for just £7 out there, you see how valuable £250 is."
