I had a really frustrating day yesterday when I was supposed to be in Edinburgh promoting my fight on October 22, which is going to be at the Royal Highland Showground.

Frank Warren arranged for me to do a press conference up there at around 10am which meant I was up and at the airport at around five in the morning.

Unfortunately, the flight got cancelled and I couldn't get up to Scotland in time for the press conference, so I didn't get to do any promotion and I have still never been to Edinburgh!

Another slightly frustrating thing is that I still don't know who I will be fighting in October, although it seems almost certain that it will be either Scott Pemberton or Kabary Salem who are both American fighters.

Both of these guys can box a bit, they are more action-packed fighters than a lot of the guys in the division and they both pose a tougher test than a lot of the boxers that I have had to defend my title against in the past.

I have begun preparing for the fight by starting my training, but at this stage I am reluctant to overdo things.

I am doing one training a session a day at the moment but by this time next week I will have stepped things up and will start going twice a day.

My fitness and weight are both OK at the moment which is quite surprising after going so long without having a fight.

However, the danger I have is that my hand speed is so quick for someone of my size that I leave myself more susceptible to muscle pulls and back spasms so I need to be careful in stepping up my ring work as opposed to just doing fitness training.

I am looking to step up a weight as everyone knows, but something I must prioritise is making sure I am having more fights in the future than I have this year. October will only be my second fight of 2004 after the injury and that is something I cannot allow to happen again. But I feel good with regard to this fight and by this time next week I should be able to comment on which of the Americans it is that I will be beating.....

Like every sport fan I have been watching the Olympics this past week and I am really enjoying it.

Whatever sport is on I will generally watch and you get plenty of variety with the Olympics and I love watching sports I wouldn't normally get to see.

Obviously with me the main event is the boxing and I have been fairly impressed with the general standard so far.

A lot of the guys seem to be very technically sound and fairly compact and the standard has surprised me a bit.

Amir Khan has looked good and if he can get past the European Champion then I think he has a good chance of a medal and for a lad of his age to bring home a medal would be very special indeed.

Something else I really enjoyed this week was the Wales game against Latvia on Wednesday night, which I think showed everyone the potential Wales has.

I am a big football fan and always watch the Wales games when I can and I was really gutted when we blew it in the play-off against Russia.

I think all Welsh football fans felt at the time that we were good enough to compete at Euro 2004 and surely Wednesday night proved that we were.

Latvia were at Euro 2004 and they competed well, even getting a draw with Germany. But we went over there and kept a clean sheet and got the win, and that definitely shows we can do well in the World Cup qualifiers.

Obviously it is going to be tricky to qualify but we have a really good side when the majority of our players are fit and having John Hartson and my good mate Craig Bellamy back in the side again has made a huge difference.

Bellamy has started the season in great form and that can only be good news for Wales.
