ELECTRICIAN Kid Carpet is going to play as many gigs in Cardiff in one day as he can next week to promote the release of his EP Dope.

The Kid has lined up Moloko, Capsule and Spillers so far but is keen to find more venues to make his merry din in.

Then on Sunday, August 29, he's playing a proper gig in BSB, Cardiff and embarks on a UK tour which brings him back to Cardiff for a gig in the Barfly on Saturday, September 11.

The Dope EP is released on Monday, August 30, on blue vinyl on Slow Graffiti records, which is also based in Cardiff.

His style of music has been called everything from Electwrongica to Toytronica and if you're looking for that something a little bit different, you won't be disappointed.

He has obviously had, one hopes, a lot of fun recording this hotch-potch collection of tinny sounds and dance beats.

It starts with Special, which has an ominous nose-bleed techno kick drum in the background and the sound of a toddler playing a Casio keyboard in the foreground.

The Kid sings in his dopey curiously cockney-esque drawl over the top and the whole thing sounds like a classic kids TV jingle from hell.

The Kid continues the youthful theme on Nelson Street Space Invaders. It's more up-tempo and less weird and in the verse sounds like an irritating cheeky chappy Blur number reworked by The Streets.

But the midriff riff saves it from bland obscurity before an incredible finish which again sounds like warped tots TV.

It seems to be about signing on - "all the people sitting behind the desks are fat; all the people sitting in front of the desks are thin," he sings. The Kid obviously lacks gainful employment and spends too much time in front those temptingly priced DVDs of classics like The Flumps and Bod.

He also listens to Van Halen (another sign of too much time on someone's hands) and here presents a drum 'n' bass tribute to their biggest hit, Jump.

He's moved the classic keyboard riff in and out of phase and added said beat with bonkers results.

The Dope EP finishes with Blind Boy on which he plays one of those old breathy keyboards and sings Etta James' I'd Rather Go on Blind and sounds like one of those buskers on the High Street that you feel really, really sorry for.

In the nicest possible way.
