NEWLYWEDS from Cwmbran decided to donate money to a Gwent hospice instead of receiving wedding gifts - all in memory of the bride's grandfather.
Lisa Jeffries, 23, and husband Gareth, 25, raised £1,190 in lieu of wedding gifts and donated it to St Anne's Hospice in memory of George Glover, her grandfather, who died of cancer in 1998, aged 67.
"My grandad was a lovely man and we decided to do this in memory of him and to help St Anne's because of their brilliant work. They all looked after him really well," said Mrs Jeffries.
"We both have everything we need and thought this idea would be a nice way to remember my grandad."
The couple have a three-year-old daughter called Georgia, named after Mr Glover.
"It is a shame he never got to see her but it's a tribute to him," said Mrs Jeffries.
The couple, who married at St Gabriel Church, Cwmbran, honeymooned in Lanzarote and donated the huge amount recently to the hospice.
Lisa's mother, Pauline Edwards, said: "Everyone at the hospice was delighted with the amount raised. Lisa and Gareth are very loving and this was a wonderful thing for them to do.
"Everybody knew him and everybody loved him. All the family, my husband, Graham, and my two sons are very proud of Lisa and Gareth, it's a lovely thing for them to do."
Lyn Mortimer, fundraising officer for the hospice, said: "It's wonderful. "It's lovely that young people are thinking of St Anne's."
