THE HORNS are already blowing for one of the biggest weekends in the jazz calendar - the 21st annual Brecon Jazz Festival.
For non-afficionados, the biggest name is crossover success Amy Winehouse, singing in the Watton Marquee on Saturday night.
Other highlights include George Melly appearing with Humphrey Lyttleton and his band, both veterans of Brecon two decades ago, award-winning vocalist Claire Martin singing with the Lawrence Cottle Big Band, and African singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist Manecas Costas, blending music from his homeland, Guinea Bissau, with the sounds of his current home in Portugal.
Randy Brecker and Bill Evans' Soulbop Band, formed last year, return to the festival after last year's highly successful European tour, DJ Giles Peterson mixes up a 21st-century cocktail of cool, and fusion pioneer Larry Coryell, electric guitarist John Abercrombie and Brazilian composer Dori Caymmi join forces for one of the most sublime shows of the festival.
And there will also be performances from the Tommy Smith Quartet, Jane Monheit, the Wayne Krantz Trio, Sherman Robertson, Dennis Rollins Bad Bone, and plenty more.
