JOE Calzaghe could be forced to fight an opponent he has already knocked out in one round.
The Gwent WBO world super middleweight champion will defend his title in Edinburgh on October 22, against an undecided opponent.
But the WBO could force Calzaghe to face Mario Veit after the German won an interim title bout in May, meaning that he would be in line for the belt had Calzaghe made the move to a higher division.
He was due to make the step up to light heavyweight last month but had to pull out of his bout with Glencoffe Johnson due to injury.
Promoter Frank Warren said that he is trying to avoid a Veit rematch but the decision would ultimately be made by the WBO.
Warren said: "The WBO are now making their mind up whether Joe has got to immediately fight Veit or will be allowed a different fight. We should know by Tuesday next week.
"But we don't want the Veit fight because Joe knocked him out in one round."
