THE car involved in an accident in which a toddler died belonged to the girl's mother, police revealed today.
But officers say they still do not know who was behind the wheel at the time of tragic incident.
Erin Kate Wright, two, died on Friday afternoon outside a relative's home in Moorland Park, Newport.
Erin's mother had been visiting her sister at the Newport home.
Inspector Fran Richley, the senior investigating officer, said it was Erin's mother's Citroen C2 which had been involved in the incident.
And they are still investigating whether the accident occurred on the driveway or the roadway.
Neighbours were left stunned by the tragedy and flowers have now been left at the scene.
One neighbour told the Argus on Saturday how she tried to revive the toddler after hearing a scream and screech.
Erin's parents live in Gloucester and it is understood they have now returned home.
In a statement released by police, Vincent and Bethan Wright, said: "Erin was full of life and brought happiness to everyone who met her."
Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at around 2.30pm on Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Inspector Richley on 01633 642400.
