A HUSBAND who carried out a frightening attack on his wife was sentenced to a community rehabilitation order for two years yesterday.

Prosecutor Kevin Seal told Cardiff crown court that Gordon Jones, 28, rang the police himself after the attack.

Jones, of Kingston Walk, Pontypool, admitted causing wife Hayleigh Jones actual bodily harm.

He was earlier found not guilty of attempting to murder her and not guilty of attempting to wound her with intent.

Mr Seal said that on January 27 when living at Springfield Terrace, Pontnewynydd, the couple had an argument.

Jones followed his wife into a bedroom, pushed her on to the bed, grabbed her by the throat and bit her.

Jones's counsel, Robert Buckland, said: "He wants to draw a line under the whole affair. He wants to put these matters behind him and get on with his life."

Passing sentence, Judge John Griffith Williams said: "Society is best served if you are given supervision.

"There is no realistic risk of anything happening to the victim. There is no prospect of any trouble.

"The circumstances of the assault must have been terrifying.

"The long-term physical consequences to her were not great."
