THE distraught parents of a toddler killed in a car accident have told how their daughter brought "happiness to everyone who met her".

Two-year-old Erin Kate Wright died from her injuries after a car collided with her in the Moorland Park area of Newport.

Police today said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

In a statement released by police, Erin's parents, Vincent and Bethan, said: "Erin was full of life and brought happiness to everyone who met her.

"We will never forget Erin and will always love her."

The senior investigating officer, Inspector Fran Richley of Gwent Police, is heading the inquiry into how little Erin died.

"We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and I am obviously unwilling and unable to speculate about how the collision occurred," he said.

"Whilst any road fatality is distressing, this incident, involving so young a child, is particularly so."

On Saturday, the Argus reported how neighbour Julie Smith, of Moorland Park, tried to revive Erin in the moments after the incident.

The 29-year-old was painting the front of her house when she heard a screech followed by a scream.

The family, who are from the Gloucester area and were visiting relatives in Newport, have now asked to be left to grieve privately.

Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at around 2.30pm on Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Inspector Richley on 01633 642400.
