In the past seven months, many local people and businesses have raised funds for the Sparkle appeal. Here are some of them:
l A group of Newport pensioners donated £50 from their social events fund to Sparkle.
l Ellie Lebbon and Chloe Kostanjevec turned their fifth birthday celebrations into a fundraising drive for the children's centre. The girls collected £230 from friends.
l Hannah Denman, an employee at the Royal Gwent Hospital, put her best foot forward for Sparkle by completing the Cardiff Half Marathon and raising £300.
l Ten firefighters from Maindee are preparing for a sponsored cycle in September, and 20 per cent of the money raised will go to the Sparkle Appeal.
l Schools and businesses held Sparkle Days, with staff and pupils paying to wear a sparkly outfit for the day.
