RUNNERS from all over the world converged on some of Gwent's top beauty spots for Interhash 2004.

The event, which was hosted in the UK for the first time, saw international running club Hash House Harriers travel from their temporary base in Cardiff to take part in non-competitive runs over the weekend.

More than 2,000 amateur athletes took part overall, with Wentwood and the Celtic Manor among the selected Gwent venues.

The term 'hash' goes back to 1938 when a group of expats in Malaysia started a running club.

The name came from the corned beef hash served at their meeting place.
