NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have launched a joint season ticket initiative with Gwent's Premier Division clubs.

The idea is to encourage supporters from Premier clubs Cross Keys, Newbridge, Pontypool, Ebbw Vale, Bedwas and Caerphilly to support the Dragons at a special rate while still watching their own clubs and feeling part of the region at the highest level.

And there will be a big cashback benefit to the clubs through either their season tickets or match day tickets.

The Dragons quickly sold 2,500 season tickets, well up on last year at any stage, and the aim of chief executive Andy Marinos is to reach the 4,000 mark.

The Dragons have a number of other initiatives planned for their family fun day at Rodney Parade on August 8 and big prizes will provide a further incentive.

"We have added extra incentives to all potential sponsors and supporters because if they buy their season ticket or joint season ticket they will go into a prize draw which is a wonderful incentive," said Marinos.

"We are trying to embrace all clubs in the region and make being part of the Dragons an exciting prospect."

The new joint season ticket scheme has met with the approval of the clubs. Pontypool secretary Colin Tuckwell said: "I think it's an excellent idea and I think the club members will say the same.

"It's a way of cementing relations between the Dragons and other clubs for more support and it also gives a payback for the clubs."
