Tim Stone, Newport Wasps speedway promoter, was fuming after learning that he had lost his bid to get the home Premier League meeting with Workington rerun.

The Speedway Control Bureau have pointed out that rules could not allow an appeal against the decision of a British Speedway Promoters' Association duty member (Colin Pratt).

Pratt decided on the day that Wasps rider Mads Korneliussen could not act as rider replacement for Tony Atkin.

The dust hadn't settled after the Workington meeting earlier this month - which Wasps lost by two points - when Stone lodged an appeal.

The BSPA ruled that the averages allowed Korneliussen to ride and that Stone had been right.

Graham Reeve, SCB consultant advisor, said: "The duty member ruled and made a judgement based on the information available and, as per rule, there is no appeal allowed."

He conceded that the ruling on the riders' averages had been correct but added: "The problem was that the information available to the referee didn't differentiate between two of the riders (Tony Atkin and Kristian Lund, both on 6.32) and it needed a third decimal place to separate them, but that information was not available on the day."

Fans approached Stone at the meeting with Edinburgh on Sunday asking if it was true that Wasps had lost their appeal.

Stone stormed: "The world and his dog knew of the decision before me. It's a bad show - I have lost two points and the fans and team have lost a chance for justice."

Stone took the action because there was only two points difference between the teams at the end of the meeting and said at the time, "We only needed a point from a rider replacement to gain a draw.

"I used Mads at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Berwick, and the return with Edinburgh, in a replacement role and I'll be using him in a similar role at Reading on Monday."

The Newport promoter added: "Despite the huge disappointment the team is gelling well and the commitment and enthusiasm is showing through, and that was evident in the win over Edinburgh on Sunday."

Wasps are without a home meeting on Sunday but the GMB Mavericks are in action against Oxford in the Conference League, followed by veteran racing.

The points for three Wasps' riders at Berwick on Saturday - which appeared in yesterday's Argus - should have read Lund 2+1 (5 rides), Korneliussen 12 (6), Evans 3 (5).
