THE second meeting of the Scottish tour continued in similar fashion to the first as current Premier League champions Edinburgh managed a comfortable 55-41 win over Newport Wasps, a similar 14-point gap to that at Glasgow on Thursday.

On a lovely sunny evening, an opening heat 5-1 set the tone with Pavel Ondrasik a long way behind the home duo. Mads Korneliussen showed a liking for the track with an enouraging second place in his first ever heat at Armadale behind Peter Carr.

Craig Watson (pictured) became the first Wasp to take the chequered flag in a heat 4 win over fellow Aussie Rory Schlein as early match hopes grew.

However Watson, despite making the gate in heat 6, found himself the meat in a sandwich and the eventual 5-1 seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors.

Another 5-1 against Watson in heat 9, this time behind the home pairing of Peter Carr and Matthew Wethers, summed up the first half of the meeting.

Heat 10 turned out to be the race of the night. Korneliussen made the start and held out Schott and Theo Pijper for three laps before he felt the full force of a pincer movement by the home duo in an excellent race.

Tim Stone used his first tactical option in heat 12 giving a double point ride to Kristian Lund and it paid reasonable dividends with the Dane taking the full six points, but Carl Wilkinson fell while challenging for third. Watson managed to split the home pairing in heat 13 and the last throw of the dice came in the penultimate heat when Korneliussen rode for double points and emulated his team-mate by also taking the maximum six points.

The skipper at least had the satisfaction of ending home captain Frede Schott's maximum by winning heat 15 in style.

Edinburgh: Frede Schott 14 (5); Theo Pijper 9+3 (4); Matthew Wethers 6+1 (4); Peter Carr 11 (4); Rory Schlein 10+1 (5); Cameron Woodward 5+2 (5); Sean Stoddart 0 (3). Newport Wasps: Pavel Ondrasik 1 (3); Tony Atkin rider replacement Kristian Lund 9+1 (6) including six as a tactical ride; Mads Korneliussen 13 (5) including six as a tactical ride; Craig Watson 10 (5); Carl Wilkinson 5+1 (5); Barrie Evans 3+2 (6).
