WOOD you believe it? An Abergavenny school has a new bench thanks to a link-up with a sculptor.
Park Street Infants School's Year Two pupils worked with a sculptor, the forest education initiative and Monmouthshire Countryside Services to create a sculpture for Linda Vista Park.
Sculptor Neil Gow, of Stroud, visited the children to ask them to contribute ideas for the hand-carved sculpture and in return he would help them design a bench for the school.
The children have worked hard with Mr Gow to build the bench, which with the sculpture is made from the same tree, felled in the Linda Vista gardens earlier this year. The sculpture portrays historic scenes from Abergavenny.
The unveiling took place on Wednesday with councillors and members for the countryside service and the forest education initiative.
Head teacher Pam Roberts said: "It is excellent to build community links and was a good experience for the pupils who took part."
