NEWPORT Wasps captain Craig Watson and number one Pavel Ondrasik will compete in the Premier League Championship Chase at King's Lynn on July 28.

The top two riders from every Premier club will take part in the inaugural event being staged at the Norfolk club's track.

It promises to be an exciting night of racing as riders fight to stay in the competition.

The first round will be over eight races with only the first three in each progressing to round two, leaving 24 riders. Then only the first two in each race will progress, narrowing the field down to 12 for round three.

The first and second finishers at that stage will go through to the semi-finals with a do-or-die final.

Neil Machin, British Speedway management committee member, said: "It's a fantastic line-up for a meeting which will provide plenty of entertainment. There is something hanging on every race and I'm looking forward to it."

Newport's three days away from home in the Premier League opens in Glasgow tonight. The Scottish club's hopes of reaching the Premier Trophy final were dashed by an aggregate defeat against Reading.

The 10-point advantage Glasgow held from the first leg on Sunday afternoon disappeared as Reading raced away to a 57-36 success the following evening, reserve Eric Carrillo, the recently acquired rider from Wolverhampton, top scoring with 11 points for Glasgow.

Phil Morris, from Cwmfelinfach, was again in form in the second leg. He scored 11 points from four, Matej Zagar gaining a maximum from 5 rides.

Big spenders Reading are now on course to lift their first trophy of the season, meeting Exeter in the final at Smallmead on August 1 with the return at Exeter the following evening.

They are still chasing the Knock-out Cup and riding high in the league, but Hull will take some catching.

Glasgow have yet to confirm their line-up, awaiting a fitness test on number two Paul Bentley who has an ankle injury. If he is ruled out the home team will use rider replacement.

Glasgow: George Stancl, Paul Bentley, Lee Dicken, James Grieves, Shane Parker, Corey Blackman, Eric Carrillo.

Wasps: Pavel Ondrasik, Tony Atkin (rider replacement), Kristian Lund, Mads Korneliussen, Craig Watson, Carl Wilkinson, Barrie Evans.

Newport have given permission for Karlis Ezergailis, the latest GMB Mavericks recruit, to ride for Coventry in the Conference Trophy.

The GMB Mavericks lost 65-25 at WImbledon last night.
