THE mayor of Newport had a day in his shades yesterday as he supported the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Councillor Paul Cockeram was among thousands of schoolchildren and workers making a donation to wear sunglasses.
He worked as manager of Newport Action For Single Homeless while wearing the fun shades. Councillor Cockeram said: "Shades for a Day is a fantastic way to both raise money for guide dogs and to highlight an important eye care message for us all."
Tom Pey, director of policy for the Guide Dogs Association, said: "There are simple measures that everyone can take to look after their eyes and potentially save their sight.
"Shades for a Day is an ideal opportunity to stop and think about eye care, and have fun whilst raising money for our on-going work."
