Newport Wasps' hectic week of three meetings in as many days is a tall order made even more difficult as they find themselves marooned at the foot of the Premier League and without an away point.

But Wasps are riding better than a bottom team outfit and were desperately unlucky not to gain a point from last Sunday's home meeting with Workington Comets - now the subject of a protest from promoter Tim Stone.

He maintained that Mads Korneliussen should have been allowed to perform in a rider replacement role and is demanding that the meeting be rerun.

The British Speedway Promoters' Association have confirmed that Tony Atkin is above Kristian Lund in the averages, which means the Wasps were right in wanting to use Korneliussen as a rider replacement.

Stone has already lodged an appeal with the Speedway Control Board and asked for the meeting, which Wasps lost by only two points, to be re-run.

Despite the two-point defeat, Wasps will be confident of picking up at least a point on their travels which begin in Glasgow tomorrow, moving on to Edinburgh on Friday and then Berwick (Saturday) before arriving home in Wales for the return against Edinburgh on Sunday (tapes up 4pm).

Once again their will be a double header with Armadale providing the opposition for GMB Mavericks.

Newport speedway pits marshall Ray Evans has asked those who have criticised track staff to volunteer their services.

Evans, in the programme for the Workington meeting, said: "It was recently brought to my attention that certain supporters here at Newport speedway have been criticising some of the track staff on the internet.

" I would like to remind them that like all of us here, the track staff work purely on a voluntary basis and without their help we couldn't run a meeting.

"If you think you can do a better job, please come and volunteer your services. I am sure we can find you a job on race day."
