PEOPLE in Pontypool have never let rain ruin a party, so it was no surprise that hundreds braved the weather to line the streets for the town's annual carnival.

This year's procession was a colourful mix of walking entries and floats, mostly made up of entries from local playgroups and nurseries.

Carnival Queen Aimee Jolliffe, 16, from Griffithstown, led the carnival procession with her court on a Tuk-tuk - a motorised buggy from the Far East.

The weather forced the carnival to take a last-minute diversion, but organiser Verity Hiscocks said the day was still a success.

"The rain certainly didn't dampen the fantastic community spirit," she said. "We had an excellent turnout for the walking entries, and the floats were of a high standard, as usual."
