YOU'VE got to pick me - that's the message from Gwent-based sprinter Darren Campbell to Britain's Olympic selectors.

Campbell pulled out of yesterday's 200m final in the Athens trials in his home city of Manchester but the Marshfield-based track star says he should be joining Newport's Christian Malcolm in the GB squad to make it a Gwent half-lap double.

The wintery conditions were one of the major reasons why Campbell opted out of the 200m final yesterday evening.

Having suffered rib damage in a fall following the 100m final on Saturday, the Sale Harrier was already struggling and aggravated the problem in winning his 200m heat.

After taking medical advice, Campbell decided not to risk further damage.

But even though Chris Lambert and Malcolm assured themselves of places on the plane to Athens with their one-two finish, the Sydney silver medallist is confident the selectors will trust him with the third spot.

"The statistics show I am in the best form of my life," said Campbell.

"It would have been crazy to run yesterday and risk further damage, so I hope the selectors do the right thing.

"I think I've done enough. The selectors need to look at what I have done in the past and also my run in the semi-final because I don't think I can be touched."

Campbell is likely to get his wish and be allowed to double up in both sprint events.

Gwent's Jamie Baulch has probably competed in his last Olympics after crashing out of the 400m in the heats with a calf injury.
