IT'S nice to know there are bands who realise ska is better off without skinheads and Marshall stacks.
Jaded, from Caerphilly, are one such band. They are more Desmond Dekker than they are hairspray and Less Than Jake.
They formed in 1999 with Andrew Smillie (lead guitar), Kris Herdman (guitar and lead vocals), James Edwards (bass and lead vocals), in the same comprehensive school, with Gareth Williams (drums) joining later.
Their trademark merry, melodic ska has earned them an enthusiastic following in Cardiff, Caerphilly, and Newport areas, playing gigs in Riverside Tavern, Blackwood Miner's Institute and TJ's recently, where they appeared with bands such as King Prawn, Terris and Mclusky.
There is a heavy side to the band but they know how to turn it off as well as they are able to turn it on.
Being vocally orientated they are crafting a sound that sounds fresh and full of energy.
l Jaded play Newport Centre Riverside Suite on Friday, June 4; Blaenavon Workman's Hall on Saturday, June 5; British Legion, Trethomas, on Friday, June 11; and Bykefest, Eglwysilan on Saturday, June 26.
