WELSH construction plant hire company Hire One, has a signed a deal with Newport based race team SLN Racing/Aztec Paving to run Matthew Perkins in the Welsh Sport and Saloon Championships for 2004.
The Championship is run at Pembrey Race Circuit which is only an hour from Newport. Argus readers will be given the chance to be a guest of Hire One at a race day later in the year. The racing is fast and furious with many different types of cars on the start line. Track conditions, tyres, suspension set-ups and weather are all considered on the day of competition enabling the teams to get the best performance out of their cars.
The lucky Argus readers will be able to experience just how competitive the championships are for themselves, race days are on Saturdays and Sundays comprising of an average of seven different categories, so there's something for everyone. The next race meeting for the Championship round is on 12 and 13 June 2004 at Pembrey.
Matthew is currently racing in a Rover GTi in the 1800cc class, and is up against some very strong competition from other South Wales competitors such as Anthony Allit/Allit Racing and Chris Davies/AutoValet Import Services, also driving Rover GTis. The overall plan is to get two more Rover GTis out on track and racing which would then qualify as a one-make championship.
