AROUND 1,000 people turned up for this year's Caldicot carnival.
The event was staged in the grounds of Caldicot Castle, with the main event being the re-enactment of battle scenes staged by the Lion Rampant Medieval Display Society.
The procession left Wood-stock Park for the castle, and those visitors heading straight for the carnival itself found performances from the Severn Tunnel Band, the Caldicot Operatic Society, a jazz band, jugglers and street dancers, as well as a set by local singer Richard Harris.
Councillor David Evans said: "We have a great programme of events going on within the beautiful setting of the castle grounds, as well as the funfair and all the stalls.
"It's a real family day and one of the biggest days of the year for Caldicot people.
"It shows the community feeling we have because everybody gets involved.
"It's a lot of hard work beforehand but it's worth it to see so many enjoying themselves. Caldicot people have great natural spirit and that really comes out at the carnival."
