WITH a second Four Nations winners' medal in his back pocket, a new two-year deal with Newport County and promotion to the revamped Conference Two, life could not get much better for midfield maestro Nathan Davies.

Davies, 22 tomorrow, has just arrived back in Wales after a victorious Four Nations tournament in Scotland, where he started two of the matches and went on as a substitute in the other to finish the season in a blaze of glory.

Davies enthused: "It was brilliant. To win it with the amount of problems we had was superb. We had so many injuries it was unbelievable.

"There were guys on the bench who could never go on because they weren't anywhere near fit, so it was a great achievement to actually win the tournament.

"I think we got there on the back of our team spirit with everyone playing for each other."

Davies was part of the Wales squad who lifted the trophy in 2002 and he has become a permanent feature in the national semi-pro side.

He said: "It was good to be involved again as it is always an honour to represent your country.

"It was a great time in Scotland. The crowds were fantastic, some of the best I've played in front of, and even the weather was pretty good. We played really well."

Davies revealed that the highlight of the trip was the 2-0 slaying of old enemy England, a result that was far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

"That was the best thing and the surprising thing was that we could have had more," he said. "They hit the bar but I think that was their only real chance.

"England have a really good team, so to beat them so comfortably was excellent."

Wales added a goalless draw in the opening match against a strong Scottish outfit and triumphed with a resounding 4-1 win over the Republic of Ireland.

Last week Davies put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him in a Newport County shirt for the next two years.

Boss Peter Nicholas commented earlier this season, "when Nathan plays, we play. You don't realise how important he is until he is not there".
