Newport Wasps, still suffering from injuries to Tony Atkin and Pavel Ondrasik, will track Workington's Kauko Nieminen for the rearranged Premier Trophy meeting with King's Lynn at the Saddlebow Road track tomorrow night.

Finn Nieminen will be making his second Wasps appearance, having ridden at Reading in the Premier Trophy and top-scored in the meeting with 13 points.

Ondrasik has missed four meetings with a shoulder and hand injury and went home to the Czech Republic for treatment. He is expected to make a return in Sunday's home meeting with Hull Vikings in the Premier League.

Atkin is a more long-term injury after breaking an arm in a slow-motion three-rider pile-up in the home meeting with Rye House.

Wasps look to end their dismal run - they've lost their last seven outings - when they ride at King's Lynn tomorrow night in the rearranged Premier Trophy meeting.

Wasps were due to ride at Saddlebow Road in late April but rain put paid to the meeting.

The loss of Ondrasik and Atkin has not helped the Wasps who have gained only two wins in competitive meetings.

Tim Stone, Newport promoter, said: "It has not been easy but you cannot buckle and the only way is to fight through it - there are no other options.

"It is a sport which is littered with risks which you have to take in your stride. They nearly always affect every club to some degree throughout the season but it has been difficult for us with two riders from the engine room taken away."

l Wasps postponed away Premier Trophy meeting with Exeter will be staged at the County Ground track on Monday (11am tapes up) and in the afternoon the Newport GMB Mavericks make a swift return to Weymouth for a four-team tournament (3.0pm tapes up). The home team will track two teams and the other team competing is Sittingbourne.

Mavericks rode at Weymouth in the Conference League last Friday, losing 55-37.

l The meeting with the Isle of Wight could be staged in September. Wasps and Islanders management agreed to ride at Hayley Stadium but the British Speedway Promoters' Association turned down the request.

Stone said: "It is a ridiculous date for a Premier Trophy meeting which, thank goodness, doesn't have any bearing on the outcome of the trophy."

l Newport's Jamie Westacott rode for Reading in the 51-39 victory over Hull in the Premier League last night but unfortunately he did not manage to score in his three heats.

l Tom Brown scored 13 points in Coventry's victory against Belle Vue. He is set to turn out for Stoke at Oxford tonight.
