A GWENT man is hoping to be on course with a bestseller after his new book was given an impressive seal of approval.
Author Phil Carradice's latest publication, Wales at War, was named book of the month by store-giant WH Smith.
The 55-year-old's paperback will take pride of place in the display windows.
Mr Carradice edits the South Wales Golfer, a sister publication of the South Wales Argus, and also presents the Pastmaster show on BBC Radio Wales.
He was also a teacher and headmaster for 30 years.
Mr Carradice said: "I am very happy. I will be at WH Smith shops for special signings."
He added: "I write poetry, children's books and history.
"This book is factual, about 150 men and women living during the Second World War - mostly from Newport."
The book is published by Gomer, priced £9.99.
