OLYMPIC Welsh medallists have pledged their support to the Argus Sparkle appeal.
Athletes Jamie Baulch and Colin Jackson are urging people to take part in a sponsored walk to raise cash for the new children's centre to be built at High Cross.
We launched our Sparkle Appeal last December to raise £250,000 towards the centre to help disabled children in Newport, Torfaen and South Monmouthshire.
In July a six-mile trek from Fourteen Locks, Newport, to Cwmbran Stadium will be held to raise more funds.
Baulch, Olympic 400 metre runner, said: "I know how important this project is to the community and how many families will benefit from this new centre being built.
"I was only too pleased to give my support and I would like to think I have motivated others into helping this great cause.
"It is so important to look after the children in South Gwent and the fact that it will be on our doorstep makes supporting it all the more special."
The dad-of-two said: "I urge everyone to start walking and help build this truly wonderful centre."
Colin Jackson, the 110-metre hurdler who retired from competition last year, said the new centre was an exciting project that would benefit hundreds of children and their families.
He encouraged people to take part in the event and raise money.
"Unfortunately I will not be there in person," he said.
"But I will be walking alongside the participants in spirit. As the future is all about our children, investing in them is a down payment for the future success of our country.
"Help support this truly unique project by joining the Sparkle Appeal sponsored walk on Sunday, July 11."
The course is six miles but people can also join at Bettws Lane, Pentre Lane or at Cwmbran Stadium to do a final lap.
