Gwent Police's Core Schools Programme has been acknowledged as a model of good practice by the Welsh Assembly Government. It has been adopted as an 'All Wales' Scheme by the other three Welsh Police Forces and has attracted £3.3 million over the next three years.
Our approach is proving to be extremely successful. We work with children in schools, covering a range of subjects, including substance misuse, personal safety and young people's responsibilities as members of the community.
The next phase is to deliver the Programme to those pupils who are disengaged or excluded from main stream education.
