The Beaufort Arms, Monkswood, Usk
With a cricket field at the back of the pub and in a quiet peaceful setting, The Beaufort Arms fits perfectly as a typical country pub.
The welcome is warm and friendly and the food is good value.
My partner and I took a detour to the pub one Sunday lunchtime but booked in advance, which was fortunate.
The dining area is small but comfortable and the quality of the Sunday lunch was certainly shown by the number of people dining there.
It may be a little off the beaten track for some but that is part of the pub's appeal. It is not overcrowded but busy enough to create an atmosphere.
My partner and I arrived and enjoyed a quick drink deciding on our selection.
There was a choice between roast beef or turkey on the day we went and we both opted for the beef.
The dinner came with plenty of beef, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans and a Yorkshire pudding.
Everything was tasty, leaving just enough room to enjoy a dessert.
I had treacle pudding and custard, which was delicious, and my partner had apple pie and custard, which he also enjoyed.
The two-course Sunday lunch was great value for money with the cost coming to £13 for both of us - a tasty meal at a great price.
