PUPILS at a Torfaen school found out how to use their votes when they were visited by sitting Euro-MP Glenys Kinnock.
The pupils, aged between 13 and 14, are not yet old enough to vote but Mrs Kinnock told them about the role of the European Parliament.
Lyndon Samuel, personal and social education co-ordinator at West Mon school, said: "The purpose of the visit was to highlight the coming European elections and to try to get our pupils to become more aware of these things so that when they're older will go and vote.
"Mrs Kinnock talked to them about the European parliament.
"We've already had Torfaen's MP and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Paul Murphy, visit us, and I've taken pupils to watch question time at the National Assembly.
The pupils really enjoyed her visit and they've got a lot out of it."
Pupil Cicely Giles, 14, of Griffithstown, said: "I think she was right to come in and talk to us because I doubt a lot of the school knew there were council and European elections.
"Politics runs in my family and I've always liked knowing what's going on and I'm a bit good at arguing as well.
"She said young people should take more interest in politics. I thought the visit was well worthwhile."
