The use of hand-held phone or similar device while driving is now prohibited due to new legislation introduced into the UK on 1st December, 2003.
Inspector Francis Richley, of the Force Roads Policing Unit said, "Throughout the UK, there have been a number of collisions in which people have been killed or seriously injured, where mobile phone use has been identified as a major factor for the incident. Legislation is now in place which specifically seeks to address this dangerous practice and whilst a 'period of grace' was initially extended towards motorists found contravening the new law, enforcement action will now be undertaken. I have been disappointed to see a significant number of drivers still using hand held mobile phones whilst driving."
