A TREDEGAR father killed himself because he was worried about his brain tumour and his stepson's conviction at court, an inquest heard.
David Andrew Jones, 38, from Bevan Avenue, Tredegar, was found hanged from a tree at Bryn Bach Country Park near his home at 8.30pm on April 2.
He was involved in a long-running family feud with his brother that led to his stepson's conviction for assault at crown court.
Wendy James, the deputy coroner for Gwent, said: "I am positive that a feud with his family and the trial were heavy on his mind.
"He felt personally responsible for the charge against his stepson and that he had involved his family in the feud.
"The contents of a letter he left at his home leaves me in no doubt as to his state of mind.
"I am satisfied that he killed himself while depressed." She said Mr Jones was also worried as he was recently told that operations on his slow-growing brain tumour were unsuccessful.
His wife, Catherine Cheryl Jones, giving evidence at the inquest at Newport Civic Centre, said her husband was acting strangely shortly before his death.
She said Mr Jones was crying when he heard about his stepson's conviction for assault at Newport crown court on April 2, the day he died. The family went to the Woodlands Club in Tredegar that night but he declined to go.
Mrs Jones said her husband blamed himself for his stepson's conviction. Verdict: Killed himself while depressed.
