WHEN there's Bang Bang Duck and Paris Breast on the menu, you know you're in for a treat.
Tucked away on the road to Ponthir, the Roman Lodge Hotel, in Caerleon, serves up giant portions that left us carrying our bellies into the car.
We were sat by an open fire to peruse the menu at our leisure, over a glass of house wine while listening to the ultra-trendy jazz music of the moment.
Over candlelight we ate goat's cheese on french bread, drizzled with olive oil and stuffed mushrooms.
Our main course of pork escalopes and Med veg (for the vegetarian) with crispy noodles almost spilt over the side of the plate. And they were BIG plates.
The waiter must have had one eye on our drinks all night because they kept topping the glasses up asking us if everything was fine without being annoying. We couldn't polish off the main course - and we did really, really try - but there was still room for dessert.
Cheesecake with butter cream and strawberry juice for me and a lime and ginger bavois for my pal.
It took us a good half hour to lick the plates clean. The service was fantastic, the food was to dream about and it was quiz night. Perfect.
