From September Newport will be one of the first Welsh universities to offer a new Social Work course that has been developed in partnership with Social Service Departments, the National Assembly for Wales and the Care Council for Wales.
The new programme will lead to the professional qualification necessary for those who wish to enter the social work profession.
"This programme provides a strong focus on professional practice which adds to the learning experience," said Amelia Lyons, Dean of the School of Social Studies. "There's a range of practical and experiential learning opportunities available which will allow individual students to follow and develop their own interests in the field.
"The foundation of a social worker's professional practice is a flexible approach to meeting the needs of individuals in Wales today. This programme will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required for a career in social work."
