THE PRIME Minister has returned a favour to some of those who helped launch the Big Conversation in Newport.

Last November the Big Beasts of the Cabinet descended on the city to start a mass public consultation on a range of issues.

Among them was Lynne Morgan, whose life was being blighted by anti-social behaviour outside her Chepstow Road home.

Mrs Morgan, 54, who cares fulltime for her disabled husband David, was originally invited to the Ringland Labour Club to give her views. She was one of those invited to attend a "thank you" reception at 10 Downing Street.

Since Mrs Morgan described her plight to Tony Blair, John Prescott and Gordon Brown, the situation in her area has improved.

Mrs Morgan said: "We had dreadful problems with fighting in the streets, burnt out cars and crime."

City MP Alan Howarth took up her case and security and other problems have been tackled.

Mrs Morgan's relief turned to excitement when she received an invitation to the UK's most famous address.

The day started with a tour of Parliament conducted by Alan Howarth. She said: "We had a great time and went for tea on the terrace by the Thames before he took us up the road to Downing Street.

"I was pretty nervous but speaking to Mrs Blair who was with Leo in his pyjamas I realised what down to earth people they are.

"I think it's been a useful exercise getting to air a lot of different opinions and I certainly had a day I will never forget."

Hartridge High headmaster Goff Davies was also on the trip and as a former history master he found it fascinating.

Mr Goff said: "I chaired a meeting at the original launch which Mr Blair had sat in for about 10 minutes. We talked about how badly anti-social behaviour was effecting people.

"It was a great surprise to get the invitation and getting inside Downing Street was particularly interesting as history is my field.

"Alan Howarth and everyone was very hospitable, I'll be telling the kids all about it."
