l Recent figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) reveal that more people are applying to study at Newport's University. The latest statistics show that 17% more people are submitting full time undergraduate applications to the university than last year, rising from 2025 to 2366. This is the biggest rise of any university in Wales.
lNewport's University has one of the highest proportions of mature students as undergraduates in Wales, third only to the University of Wales College of Medicine (50%) and NEWI (45%).
lAccording to figures published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) last December, Newport is the top university across England, Wales, and Scotland, and the second HEI (higher education institution) in Wales for the number of students enrolled from state schools (98%).
These latest performance indicators also show that Newport is among the leaders in the UK and Wales for increasing the percentage of students who come from areas which have not traditionally taken part in higher education.
lIn the most recent annual survey, 94 % of Newport students said that they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the University. It also showed that 91% were satisfied with their course and 87 % would recommend the university to a friend or relative.
l 98 % of employers are satisfied with the training and education their staff receive at Newport's University.
