THE best dance happening in South Wales this weekend is Funktuate in Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.

Welcoming Radioactive Man and Space DJz among many, it has something for everyone.

Six hours of intelligent banging fun is promised across three floors featuring some acts making their Welsh debut. Ben Long and Jamie Bissmire, aka Space DJz, are techno stalwarts, coming into the scene in the early 90s and releasing a string of influential 12ins.

They've never played Wales before but luckily they're still producing the same high quality minimal machine funk and hip-hop on labels like Infonet.

Homegrown Welsh producer Matig, of the Native Collective, and the brains behind the event, Manuel Razawi, have the top floor. Expect banging, near nose-bleed techno, and many German techno sounds.

The middle floor will be home to Keith Tenniswood, aka Radioactive Man. After two years making a name for himself as a studio engineer, it was as one half of the messy hip-hop act Two Loneswordsmen that he emerged into the limelight. Expect bass worrying electro breakbeat.

Also appearing are the scratchadelic Optimas Prime, another homegrown act famous for their two deck sets.

Funktuate is in Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff, on Sunday, May 2 from 8pm. Tickets are £10. Dial 029 2023 2199 for info.
