NITRO-POWERED action and an outstanding demonstration of power, balance and control will soon be on show when Buell Motorcycles and Craig Jones turn up the heat at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo race circuit on February 29. Jones, one of the world's elite extreme riders, has got the green light to break his world Stoppie record in front of the tens of thousands of race fans attending the first round of the 2004 World Superbikes championship.

Craig set the current world record of 266 metres in Florida last year and is now planning to smash through the 300 metre barrier in Valencia on his Buell Firebolt XB12R. The former European extreme riding champion said: "Valencia can't come soon enough! Our preparations are going well and the 300 metre landmark is a real possibility because I've got total confidence in the Firebolt XB12R and my support team."

The Englishman and his Buell team will use the start/finish straight of the Ricardo Tormo circuit to achieve a launch speed of 140mph. Then he'll stand the Sportfighter Buell Firebolt XB12R on the front wheel and target the 300 metre line.

To achieve this speed in such a short distance the Buell Firebolt has been fitted with a special nitrous oxide injection system that unleashes an extra 40bhp. When Craig hits fifth gear he'll press and hold the injector button for five seconds to release the nitrous oxide in the engine. The World Stoppie record involves balancing a motorcycle on the front wheel at high speed and then steering it down the track under the lightest possible braking to achieve maximum distance.

Craig Jones is a professional extreme rider for Buell Motorcycles and Harley-Davidson. He only performs on closed circuits and under controlled conditions. The Buell Firebolt XB12R packs a torque-laden 1203cc air-cooled V-twin engine and excels in real world riding conditions. The combination of ultra-aggressive styling and innovative technology combine to make the Firebolt one of the most distinctive motorcycles on the road.
