The Costa de la Luz extends westwards from Tarifa in southern Spain to the Portuguese border.

This is the Spain of ferias and fiestas, of seafood, olives and fino sherry, of unspoiled beaches, nature reserves and the historic towns of Jerez, Sevilla, Huelva and Cadiz.

This is the real Spain, yet it's easily accessible from Malaga and Faro airports.

According to Joy Davies, property consultant at www.Costadelaluz.biz (Tel. 01269 591774), properties for sale range from townhouses near golf courses in Costa Ballena or Isla Canela, to older town centre properties in Chiclana or Vejer.

There are seafront apartments in La Barrossa or Zahara, and private villas with their own pools in El Puerto de Santa Maria.

The area is now beginning to attract British visitors and prices are rising, but there is still plenty of choice. The Cadiz province is the most developed, and towns such as Chiclana, El Puerto and Cadiz have shops, hospitals, services and leisure amenities, all important if you're thinking of setting in a new area.
