IF THE Communists in Spain (supported by the International Brigade) had won power, history might have been very different.

In 1939 they, like fellow Communists in Germany ( and Britain) would have danced to Stalin's orders and co-operated with the Nazis.

The Axis powers would have controlled the Straits of Gibraltar and cut Britain's short route to the Middle East. The war might have ended in Western Europe before Pearl Harbour brought in the USA.

Paradoxically, the Fascist General Franco, who kept Spain formally neutral, proved the better winner from our point of view.
