GWENT'S Jamie Baulch is set to snub this year's World Indoor Champion-ships in Budapest claiming he no longer takes the competition seriously.
Baulch is one of Britain's most successful indoor athletes but is yet to decide whether he will travel to Budapest with the rest of his GB teammates which include Newport's Christian Malcolm and Cardiff duo James Thie and Tim Abeyie.
"I've been named in the team, which is nice, but I still haven't made up my mind if I'll go," said the 400m star, who won the indoor gold medal in 1999.
"I'm in good shape and know that I would be able to do a good job and if I got some quality speed work in then I could come away with a medal.
"But this year is all about the Olympics and that has got to be my main focus.
"I'm one of the most successful British indoor athletes but I've never won an outdoor individual medal and that has got to be my target at this stage of my career.
"Indoor medals are no longer important to me as people seem to forget about that achievement within days, it's almost as if people don't care about the championships and it is fair to say that it is no longer a priority for me.
"I've got to look at the big picture and if going to Budapest disrupts my long term plan for Athens then I won't go.
He added: "I won't change my training just to be in shape for the World Indoor Champion-ships and at the same time I won't go there just to make up the numbers.
"I'll probably decide about a week before but I've spoken to the selectors and UK Athletics and explained that I might not be going and they are fine with that.
"They understand my reasoning and fully support that."
