TWO teenagers were charged last night over an incident which left an 18-year-old Cwmbran man bleeding on his mother's doorstep.
Matthew Young needed emergency surgery to remove a clot on his brain following the attack last Saturday.
Last night, Detective Inspector Mike Jones said one juvenile had been charged with an offence of wounding and another with a charge of theft. Both the youths, one of whom is 15, were released on police bail last night.
Two other teenagers who had been quizzed by police at Newport central station were also released without charge.
Matthew, of Fairwater Way, was taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital before being transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, following the incident.
Detective Inspector Mike Jones, added: "We still haven't spoken to Matthew and will wait until he leaves hospital."
Matthew was with friends at Grimas Fish Bar, in Victoria Street, late on Friday 13, but police have been piecing together what happened after that.
He last remembers eating chips at the fish bar at 11.30pm. The next thing known about his movements is when he collapsed at his mother Sue Horgan's front door at 1am.
His mother said last night: "Doctors thought he was improving. " But he has gone back a bit as he is vomiting after he has eaten.
"We are not sure if he will be able to come home this weekend as the doctors have not been able to stabilise him.
"He is really tired and still has no recollection of what happened." Matthew's injuries also included a fractured skull, grazing around his ribs and knees, and two missing front teeth.
