SISTERS are doing it for themselves in one Newport household - and they're hoping to reach the top of the music business.
New girl band Sister Smith comprises sisters Delyth Smith, 25, Ely, 21 and Beth, 18, a trio who write their own material and play instruments, and who are hoping their musical talent will propel them to chart success.
The sisters are no stranger to performing in front of crowds: as youngsters they performed at the National Eisteddfod and now they play before Newport County matches and at gigs such as the BBC's Big Buzz.
Beth said they got the idea to form a band from a producer at a recording studio in Cardiff after her elder sister Delyth won a competition on the radio to write a song and record it.
She said: "The producer said 'Why don't you form a band together?' and it went from there.
"We are hoping to go to America towards the end of the year. We are in contact with Dana Muray, a big producer in the US, so we will hopefully get some gigs over there.
"Our style is quite rock. Our last song was a little Sixties and we have some dance type of songs and some salsa music, pop, rock and dance."
At the moment the sisters are looking for a record deal and possible sponsorship, but as well as working and studying the sisters are busy rehearsing and writing in their free time.
Beth is a student and part-time cashier at Monmouth-shire Building Society, Ely works in marketing and Delyth is a trainee solicitor - but all three are committed to their music.
They are also close and professional when working together.
Beth said: "I think we are unique and because we are sisters our voices naturally blend but we each have our own different look and style."
Ely, 21, said: "We are very excited and definitely feel that we are going to get somewhere, we haven't been given this talent by God for nothing.
"We just want to go all the way. We are trying every angle and knocking at every door until we get a yes."
